You’ve heard of Oktoberfest—the legendary beer-fueled bash that takes over Munich every fall. But what if I told you there’s a springtime version that’s just as fun, a little more chill, and way easier to snag a table at? Say hello to Springfest—Oktoberfest’s cooler, less crowded little sibling that’s serving up steins, sunshine, and serious good vibes.
History:
The celebration of Oktoberfest stems from a single wedding celebration: Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began October 12, 1810, and lasted nearly a week until October 17. The celebrations were so spectacular that the couple decided they should be hosted every year moving forward. And they were eventually moved up a month to begin in September.
Today, Oktoberfest is one of the largest festivals in the world and characteristic of the 21st century, with more than 6 million visitors every single year.
Frühlingsfest (aka Springfest) began less than a century ago in 1965. And one can only imagine that the decision was because so many simply couldn’t wait for Oktoberfest any longer.
Important Information:
